Right to Housing

National Housing Strategy 2.0

Assessing what a renewed National Housing Strategy must do to comply with the National Housing Strategy Act.

The National Housing Strategy 2.0 is an important opportunity to align federal housing policy with Canada's commitment to the right to adequate housing. The adoption and maintenance of a strategy for the progressive realization of the right to adequate housing is a statutory obligation under the National Housing Strategy Act (NHSA).

This page will consider what is required for the National Housing Strategy to comply with the commitment to the right to adequate housing in the NHSA, including the need for rights-based implementation, meaningful accountability, attention to those most affected by homelessness and inadequate housing, and measurable progress over time.
